PKR MP Lee resigns after suspension, clashes with councilor over project votes
PKR MP Lee for Petaling Jaya announced his resignation following a three-year suspension and accused councilor Ng of focusing on meeting attendance rather than policy issues.
Lee, the federal MP for Petaling Jaya, declared he would vacate his seat after PKR suspended his membership for three years, a move he linked to controversies over the PSB Act, foreign worker recruitment, STPM university admissions and Selangor’s non-Islamic house-worship guidelines. Responding to councilor Ng’s criticism of his attendance at MBPJ meetings, Lee stressed that MPs are invited only as observers and lack voting power, whereas councilors are responsible for debating and approving council matters.
He challenged Ng to reveal his own attendance at full and committee sessions and to clarify his position on the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link project and the Selangor Intelligent Parking scheme, including any council agreements. Lee reiterated his opposition to both projects, urged PKR to issue an official stance, and demanded a royal commission to probe what he described as a corporate mafia. Ng had earlier accused Lee of skipping most local council meetings on issues such as flood mitigation and the Petaling Jaya Local Plan.
Why it matters
The resignation and intra-party dispute could reshape PKR's representation and influence local development projects in Petaling Jaya.
