Planning commission greenlights next phase of $807m Royal Perth Hospital expansion
Western Australia's planning commission approved stage two of the Royal Perth Hospital redevelopment, adding a nine-storey emergency building and a link to the existing block.
The Western Australian Planning Commission unanimously approved the application for the next stage of the Royal Perth Hospital's $807.3 million expansion. The approved works include a nine-storey S Block that will house a new emergency department, a three-storey enclosed link to the existing R Block, upgraded ambulance and vehicle access, and enhancements to the surrounding public realm. Stage 1 began in June with slab, lift and stair core construction and is already progressing, with the alliance delivery model selected to meet an accelerated timetable.
Deputy alliance manager Dion Di Crescenzo called the project the largest recent redevelopment of the site and a catalyst for broader precinct upgrades. Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey reaffirmed a 2028 completion target, while commissioners Bianca Sandri and Paul Lakey praised the collaborative effort among government agencies and the proponent.
Why it matters
The expansion will boost emergency care capacity for Perth and supports long-term health infrastructure growth.
