PM Shehbaz limits load-shedding to two hours nationwide amid RLNG shortage
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered that no region in Pakistan should face more than two hours of load-shedding, citing reduced RLNG supplies.
At a cabinet-level gathering on power load management, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that load-shedding should not exceed two hours in any Pakistani locality. He highlighted that the supply of regasified liquefied natural gas has been hit by ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz, leading to lower electricity generation. To mitigate public discontent, he ordered the establishment of Consumer Grievance Redressal Committees within a week, mandating the participation of elected officials.
The meeting included Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Climate Change Minister Mushtaq Malik, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Power Minister Sardar Awais Leghari, and Adviser Rana Sanaullah. He also emphasized the need to use all available resources efficiently to prevent prolonged outages. The RLNG price surge, driven by spot-market purchases after the US-Iran conflict, has raised generation costs dramatically.
