PNL backs parliamentary reduction to 300 seats while keeping six diaspora seats

In a pre-session meeting, members of the National Liberal Party's parliamentary group discussed the upcoming vote on a law that would shrink Romania's parliament to 300 seats. The group decided to endorse the reduction, referencing the outcome of the 2009 referendum as a legal basis. However, they also voted to maintain a fixed allocation of six seats for the Romanian diaspora.

Parties such as AUR, USR and UNIT have requested that the diaspora be represented using the same algorithm applied within the country and have asked to join the working group that will examine the bill's text. The PNL's position reflects a compromise between overall downsizing and preserving overseas representation.
