PNL demands PSD retract budget deficit claims and publish accurate data
The National Liberal Party urged the Social Democrats to withdraw a public statement it says misrepresents Romania's budget deficit and to provide correct figures.
In a formal statement, the National Liberal Party called on the Social Democratic Party to publicly correct what it described as a manipulation of the budget deficit figures and to remove the related press release from PSD's official page. PNL pointed to Treasury explanations released on Thursday that refute PSD's narrative and align with Eurostat data. The party emphasized that Romania's deficit was 2% of GDP at the half-year mark and that the country is on track to meet its annual target, provided PSD does not derail the effort.
International rating agencies—Moody's (5.8% of GDP), Fitch (5.9%) and S&P (6.25%)—have confirmed the progress, according to PNL. The liberals warned that misleading information could damage the nation's reputation among investors and businesses, and urged PSD to assume responsibility for preparing next year’s budget without further delay.
Why it matters
