Podcaster challenges children's educator over Israel genocide remarks at park

Avi Lichtschein, host of the "Depends on the Context" podcast, encountered popular children’s educator Rachel Griffin Accurso while both were at a local park with their children. He pressed her on why she said she was not anti-Israel but opposed to the Israeli government and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Accurso responded that she condemned the war’s impact, citing the death of twenty thousand children and calling it genocide.

Lichtschein argued that genocide is a specific legal term, not interchangeable with war, and warned that her rhetoric could incite anti-Jewish sentiment globally. He noted that Accurso identified as a Zionist and claimed her husband’s father is Jewish, yet accused her of spreading blood libel. After the exchange, Lichtschein spoke with Accurso’s husband, apologizing for upsetting her while maintaining his point about the responsibility that comes with a large platform. One outlet sought comment from Accurso but received none.
