Pogacar sidelined for remainder of season after Vuelta crash injuries

During the eighth stage of the Vuelta a España, race leader Tadej Pogacar crashed and incurred a broken collarbone, concussion, a stable fracture in his neck and several abrasions, necessitating surgical intervention. The 27-year-old, a five-time Tour de France champion, will miss the remainder of the season, including the World Championships in Montreal where he was slated to wear the rainbow jersey. He described the situation as far from his desired season ending and emphasized the need for a careful recovery.

UAE Team Emirates-XRG confirmed his season will end and that he will not compete again until he is fully fit, without setting a specific return date. The team also disclosed that Pogacar has agreed to extend his contract by two years, now running through 2032. He will support his teammates from home while focusing on rehabilitation.
