Poland launches massive Port Polska hub with new airport and high-speed rail

Poland’s Port Polska programme, one of the country’s largest infrastructure investments, will see the construction of a new mega-airport located roughly 37 km south-west of Warsaw, featuring two runways and provision for a third to allow future capacity growth. Below the airport, a railway station and tunnel will integrate the site into a national high-speed rail system capable of 350 km/h, with the inaugural Warsaw-Łódź segment expected to commence operations in 2032.

The airport is planned to accommodate tens of millions of passengers per year from its opening, easing traffic at Warsaw’s existing Chopin Airport and expanding long-haul routes for the national carrier LOT. The programme’s budget for 2024-2032 will be financed through a mix of state funds, European Union contributions and market borrowing. Prime Minister Donald Tusk renamed the project Port Polska in 2025, while the state-owned company CPK remains responsible for its delivery.
