Poland Nears Decision on U.S. PAC-3 Missile Service Center

Polish officials expect a decision this week on locating a U.S. PAC-3 MSE missile service hub in Poland, with Lockheed Martin showing support.

Poland is poised to make a major decision this week regarding the establishment of a service facility for PAC-3 MSE missiles, which support Patriot anti-missile defenses. Lockheed Martin, the contractor that produces the missiles, has indicated approval of the Polish offer, and the plan enjoys backing from the Trump administration and the Pentagon. Negotiations have been ongoing for months, with a May statement from Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk noting preliminary consent from the U.S. State Department.

The process was further advanced after a September meeting between President Karol Nawrocki and Donald Trump during a UN General Assembly dinner, where the missile service issue was discussed. The initiative follows a July agreement among the United States, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden to create a European missile service centre, though Germany, the Netherlands and Norway have withdrawn from the competition for the site.

Why it matters

The decision could deepen Poland's defence ties with the U.S. and enhance NATO's missile-defence capabilities in Europe.
