Poland prepares special law to speed construction of new US military base
Polish defence officials say a special legislative act will be drafted to accelerate the building of a US troop base, with two western sites under consideration.
Poland's Ministry of National Defence is set to introduce a special legislative measure aimed at hastening the development of a permanent US military installation. Deputy minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka explained that the law will streamline construction processes and allocate specific duties among ministries, likening the project to building a small town. Two western Polish locations have already been presented to US authorities, who have responded with assessments from Washington.
Officials stress the importance of logistical factors such as airport connectivity and closeness to a major city, with areas around Wrocław, Poznań and Szczecin cited as possible sites. The Polish government intends to cover infrastructure costs and has proposed favorable financial conditions for the US, while preliminary estimates place the construction budget between 11 and 17 billion złoty.
