Poland pushes defence sales to the Philippines after helicopter delivery
Poland's deputy foreign minister said Warsaw aims to sell drones, missiles and other weapons to the Philippines following the recent hand-over of Black Hawk helicopters.
In Manila, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wladyslaw Bartoszewski told officials that Poland seeks to expand its defence partnership with the Philippines, proposing sales of drones, radar gear, surface-to-air missiles and APCs after completing the Black Hawk helicopter delivery. The Philippines recently received the last seven of 32 S-70i helicopters from PZL Mielec, a Sikorsky subsidiary, under a P32 billion agreement signed in 2022.
A Philippine delegation has inspected Polish equipment to identify further procurement options. Bartoszewski also noted ongoing discussions with Ukraine about transferring Polish MiG-29 fighters in exchange for Ukrainian drone technology, including possible refurbishment of the jets. Poland’s defence industry is backed by an investment of nearly $50 billion, positioning the country to market its military hardware abroad. These moves come as Poland continues to support Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
