Poland's richest man closes two Ukrainian factories after drone attacks
Michał Sołowow has ordered the shutdown of Cersanit's plant in Zwial and Barlinek's facility in Winnica following severe damage from Russian drone strikes.
Michał Sołowow, Poland's wealthiest individual, confirmed that Cersanit's manufacturing unit in Zwial and Barlinek's plant in Winnica will permanently halt production after Russian drone attacks inflicted serious damage on both facilities. The Cersanit factory sustained major harm to its building and key production lines, prompting evacuations but no reported casualties. Barlinek's Ukrainian site, which was previously struck in a 2025 drone assault that killed one person and injured several others, also cannot guarantee worker safety under current conditions.
Repeated air-raid warnings, mandatory evacuations, and frequent power interruptions have rendered safe and stable operations impossible. The decision impacts roughly a thousand Cersanit employees in the Zhytomyr region and several hundred workers at Barlinek's Winnica plant, underscoring the broader strain of the war on Polish businesses operating in Ukraine.
Why it matters
The closures illustrate how the conflict is disrupting foreign-owned manufacturing and jobs in Ukraine.
