Poland says it will not block opening of EU accession talks for Ukraine

At a press briefing in Kyiv, Deputy Prime Minister and foreign minister Radosław Sikorski confirmed that Poland will not block the opening of the thematic negotiation clusters for Ukraine's EU accession, although he warned the process will be challenging. He cited the European Commission's assessment that Ukraine is prepared to start negotiations and expressed hope that Kyiv will finish implementing its association agreement, especially the deepened free-trade area.

Sikorski added that Ukraine could join the EU single market even before full membership. He also pledged Polish support in the United Nations and other venues to boost aid for Ukraine and to pressure holders of Russian assets to prevent their return to the aggressor, aiming to lessen the reconstruction burden on Kyiv. The accession talks are organized into six clusters, each requiring unanimous approval from EU member states.
