Poland signs agreement assigning roles for second nuclear power plant

Polish state firms PEJ and PGE have signed a pact that defines their responsibilities for developing the country's second nuclear power station.

Polish Nuclear Power Plants (PEJ) and the energy group PGE have formalised a cooperation framework for the second Polish nuclear power plant (EJ2). Under the pact, PEJ will act as the investor and overall project coordinator, while PGE will prepare initial feasibility studies and assess potential sites in partnership with technology providers. Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka stressed that domestic nuclear capacity strengthens Poland's resilience to crises and reduces reliance on foreign suppliers.

Deputy Minister Wojciech Wrochna added that the upcoming studies will be run competitively to secure favourable terms for technology, financing and strategic partnership. PEJ President Marek Woszczyk noted that experience from the first plant will help streamline administrative procedures. PGE President Dariusz Lubera said the joint effort will lay a solid foundation for a modern, stable and safe energy system for future generations.
