Poland to send additional Patriot air-defence missiles to Ukraine

Polish authorities intend to provide Ukraine with a modest quantity of missiles for its Patriot air-defence system, according to statements from senior military officials. General Ireneusz Nowak, an operational commander of the Polish armed forces, explained that the delivery conforms to a previously set, confidential limit and that older, possibly overhauled, equipment could still be valuable for Kyiv. The Ministry of National Defence refused to reveal the precise number of rockets, invoking the need to safeguard classified data.

This assistance builds on an earlier transfer of five PAC-3 MSE missiles and aligns with Poland's ongoing support package, which focuses on surplus or nearing-end-of-life hardware. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned of a direct Russian threat to Polish security, adding political weight to the aid. Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz previously argued that helping Ukraine defend its airspace also enhances Poland's own safety, provided domestic capabilities are not weakened.
