Police and consumer watchdog raid solar firms over alleged bid-rigging
Authorities conducted dawn raids on several solar panel companies as part of a probe into suspected bid-rigging.
In a coordinated effort, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) and local gardaí, including members of An Garda Síochána’s District Detective Units, carried out unannounced searches of several solar panel firms. The raids, commonly called “dawn raids,” are linked to an investigation into alleged bid-rigging, where competitors may conspire to fix tender results. While the searches do not imply that a violation has been proven, CCPC member Úna Butler highlighted the agency’s commitment to safeguarding competition and consumer interests.
The commission declined to disclose further details of the case and appealed for tips from the public. No arrests or charges have been reported at this stage.
