Police and military helicopters conduct low-altitude drills over Uusimaa this week

Helicopters from Helsinki police and the Defence Forces are flying low over Uusimaa as part of the Karhu readiness exercise, which runs from Monday to Thursday.

The Karhu training operation, started on Monday and will continue through Thursday, involves police helicopters and aircraft from the Defence Forces' Utti Jaeger Regiment. Low-level flights have been spotted on Wednesday along the Espoo coast and in western Helsinki, especially around Lohja. The sorties are limited to evening hours and conclude by 23:00 each night, with some drills also taking place over vacant rural properties.

Why it matters

Residents need to know why low-flying helicopters are in their area to avoid confusion and safety concerns.
