Police arrest teen after Chinese tourist alleges assault in Semporna resort room

According to police, the assault took place in a resort on Jalan Kamiri in Semporna at about 3 a.m., when the 25-year-old Chinese visitor awoke to a man in her room removing some of her clothes and trying to seize her hand. She managed to flee, taking refuge in surrounding bushes before being discovered by a resort worker in the morning. During her escape, she said the suspect pulled her hair, causing her to fall. Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah of the Semporna district police said a criminal investigation team arrested an 18-year-old male suspect at the resort at approximately 8 p.m. The suspect was taken to the district police headquarters for questioning and is being charged under Section 448 for trespassing and Section 354 for assault with intent to outrage modesty.
