Police confirm newborn found dead in trash container in Semily region

Authorities verified that a newborn baby was discovered dead inside a waste container in Semily, and investigators are searching for the person who placed it there.

On Sunday night, a regular paper-recycling collector in the Semily district noticed a bag in a waste container that held a newborn resembling a doll. She called her daughter-in-law, who opened the bag, discovered the infant and promptly alerted police. The police spokesperson, Dagmar Sochorová, confirmed the child was dead and that regional criminal investigators are conducting an intensive search for the person who left the baby there.

A nearby auto-repair shop owner suggested the perpetrator might be unfamiliar with the area, noting the collector’s routine routes. Residents have been questioned about any suspicious activity, including sightings of someone carrying a two-striped sports bag. Police are also seeking footage from private security cameras to aid the investigation.
