Police cruiser crashes into Merrylands home, repairs still pending after six months

In early March, a police cruiser from the Cumberland Police Area Command left the road and crashed into a residence on Holroyd Road in Merrylands while responding to an assault report in Guildford West. Although the officers and occupants escaped injury, the collision collapsed part of the garage, ruptured water pipes and forced emergency crews to cut power to the house. The couple, Frank and Sylvia, who have previously experienced a police vehicle strike their home, report that more than six months later the property remains damaged and they have received little assistance.

They are pressing the police to coordinate with their insurance provider to restore the house and have called for protective bollards to be installed. NSW Police confirmed the claim has been sent to the force’s insurer, that the crash is under investigation, and that a Safe Driver Panel will assess the officers’ actions.
