Police Detain dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators on Amsterdam’s Dam despite ban
Police arrested around thirty pro-Palestinian protesters who gathered at the National Monument on the Dam after a court barred the rally.
A court ruling earlier on Thursday prohibited a pro-Palestinian counter-demonstration on Amsterdam’s Dam, directing the city to use the Oude Turfmarkt instead. Defying the order, roughly thirty protesters gathered at the National Monument around 20:30. Police formed a cordon, surrounded the crowd and led them, together with a separate group on Damstraat, onto an empty city bus that was driven onto the square.
The demonstrators were then taken to a police station. Earlier that evening, several activists were also detained inside an H&M store on the Dam after a large Palestinian flag was lowered from a balcony and flyers were distributed. The municipality had previously been ordered to prevent the rally on the Dam.
