Police Detain Mother Charged with Murder After Newborn Found in Trash Container

Police spokesperson Vladimíra Šrýtrová said that at the start of the week investigators detained a woman in connection with a particularly serious crime in Semily. The woman is being prosecuted for a particularly serious act of murder after a newborn’s body was recovered from a container near a football pitch, where locals reported hearing a child’s cry. She now faces a possible sentence of up to twenty years in prison or an exceptional test, given the victim was under fifteen years old.
The suspect is currently held in custody. Police also expressed gratitude to citizens who participated in a mass DNA-screening campaign in Rovensko pod Troskami, a method used to verify facts, though they withheld details about the mother’s background or the role of DNA results in the arrest.
