Police dogs flee handler's garden in Leicestershire, injuring two passersby

Two members of the public suffered minor injuries after a police dog and a retired dog escaped from their handler's garden in Sileby, Leicestershire.

In Sileby, Leicestershire, two German shepherds—one active police dog and one retired—escaped from the garden of their handler's house and entered the street. After barking, the dogs approached a woman and later bit a man who had pulled over to assist, injuring his ankle. The injuries were minor and did not require medical attention.

Leicestershire Police confirmed an inquiry is under way and have spoken to the victims. The handler has been reminded to keep the property gate secured, and both the handler and the operational dog will undergo a safety assessment. Other dog handlers in the unit have also been reminded of secure-premises protocols, and the force apologized to those involved.
