Police end Salford roof standoff, arrest sleeping suspect after two-day siege

Emergency crews responded to a disturbance at a house on Reservoir Street in Salford, remaining on scene for two days while a standoff unfolded. Greater Manchester Police’s tactical unit positioned a ladder against the roof of a back porch and, when the 37-year-old suspect was found sleeping, officers moved in, resulting in a brief struggle that saw his trousers slip before he was pulled down and taken into custody in the garden.

The man faces charges including public nuisance, criminal damage, burglary, public order offences and assaulting two police officers, and remains in custody. Two police officers incurred minor injuries during the incident. The operation was requested by another police force to arrest the individual, who was wanted on a prison recall for other matters. Det Ch Insp Helen Bagnall praised the coordinated effort, noted property damage caused by the suspect, and pledged assistance for local residents.
