Police families recount assault and near-lynching during Delhi CJP protest

During a Friday press conference, relatives of Delhi police personnel injured in the July 20 CJP demonstration shared their experiences of the violence. The daughter of a sub-inspector explained that her father, who had served 15 years as a Marine Commando in the Indian Navy, was dragged by a crowd and nearly lynched near the Jantar Mantar stage on July 25, later regaining consciousness after four hours at RML Hospital.

She said social media portrayed him as a criminal and that the attackers were seeking legal relief in the Supreme Court. The wife of an Assistant Commissioner described the pain of seeing her husband return home injured, while their two-year-old child witnessed the ordeal. Other family members called for the perpetrators to be held responsible and for the student protesters to be released after their identities are verified. Collectively, the families appealed to the Supreme Court for justice, emphasizing the risks faced by officers during the protest.
