On Saturday morning in Beauvais, Oise, a rider was observed firing a handgun from his motorcycle, alarming local residents who summoned police. When officers arrived at his residence they faced gunfire, wounding an officer in the arm. After trying non-lethal options, including a taser, the police resorted to their service weapons and shot the individual, who was described as "excited and threatening."
The man died shortly after emergency responders arrived. Prosecutor Nicolas Septe noted the deceased had left the Clermont psychiatric hospital the previous day. The episode highlights the difficulties of confronting armed individuals with recent mental-health treatment.
