Police fire shots at man in Bristol after firearm sighting report

Armed officers shot a man in his 40s on Fishponds Road, Bristol, after a passerby reported a possible gun at the address.

Around 5.30 pm on Fishponds Road in Eastville, Bristol, police were called after a resident reported seeing what they believed to be a firearm at a property. Avon and Somerset Police deployed armed officers, who fired their weapons before any negotiation took place. A man in his 40s was hit, received immediate medical attention from paramedics, and was conscious when transported to hospital, where his injuries are described as not life-threatening.

The force confirmed that no officers were injured and that there is no ongoing danger to the public. A mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been made, and a police cordon remains in place while investigations continue. Superintendent Matt Ebbs said the incident is rare and that support will be offered to all involved.

Why it matters
