Police intensify search for Sharaz Ali, convicted of 2021 machete attack
West Midlands Police are hunting 45-year-old Sharaz Ali, convicted of attempting to murder his wife in a 2021 machete assault, who remains at large.
In September 2021, Sharaz Ali attacked his wife in their Birmingham residence, using a machete and a knife, leading to a conviction for attempted murder. He failed to appear for his trial in August 2022, resulting in a bench warrant and a 23-year prison term handed down in his absence. Police believe he has previously stayed in Croydon, London, but suspect he may now be concealed somewhere in Birmingham, possibly in the Stechford area where he lived.
West Midlands Police have issued a renewed public appeal, asking anyone with relevant details to call 999 and to report anonymously via Crimestoppers, emphasizing that he should not be approached. The investigation is ongoing as authorities coordinate with other forces to locate the fugitive.
Why it matters
The fugitive’s capture is crucial for public safety and to enforce a lengthy sentence for a violent crime.
