Police Offer NT$1 Million for Tips on Fugitive Former Legislative Aide
Authorities have pledged a NT$1 million reward for information that leads to the capture of Chang Chun-chieh, a 70-year-old former legislative aide who fled after breaking his electronic monitor.
Chang Chun-chieh, the former office director for independent lawmaker Kao Chin Su-mei, fled Taiwan after his electronic monitoring device was found broken in Taipei’s Daan Forest Park on Sept. 6. He is wanted on charges of corruption and fraud linked to the embezzlement of public funds and the illegal import of COVID-19 test kits. Police have announced a NT$1 million reward for information that results in his arrest and have also issued a warrant for an alleged accomplice, identified only as Chen, who is believed to have assisted in damaging the monitor.
Six rounds of searches and seven interrogations have been carried out, with Chang reportedly changing clothes and vehicles and traveling through Wanhua, Ximending, Taoyuan, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung while borrowing phones to avoid detection. The case also intersects with a separate espionage investigation, where two of Chang’s alleged collaborators were detained for alleged violations of the National Security Act involving Chinese funding.
