Police officer dives into storm drain to save Saskatoon teen during flash flood

A Saskatoon police officer entered a flooded storm drain to keep a teen's head above water until firefighters could free him.

On the evening of Aug. 14, Saskatoon police were called to a dog park on Kinnear Avenue after a teenager became stuck in a storm-drain grate as rainwater surged through the system. The initial responder entered the drain and kept the boy's head clear of the rushing water until fire department crews arrived. Firefighters used spreaders and saws to dismantle several metal bars, creating enough space for the teen to be pulled out after almost two hours of effort.

The youth was then transported to a hospital for evaluation. City officials later warned residents to avoid sewers, bridges and other infrastructure, emphasizing that only authorized personnel should enter such sites. The officer involved was lauded for his courageous actions, though his identity was not disclosed.
