Police officer investigated after video shows him throwing homeless man in Carcassonne
A judicial inquiry has been launched into a police officer who was filmed pushing a homeless man to the ground in Carcassonne; the man died 13 days later, but officials say no causal link has been proven yet.
Following the release of footage depicting a national police officer in Carcassonne throwing a homeless young man to the ground, the public prosecutor initiated a judicial investigation for voluntary violence on Sunday. The incident, captured on video, took place in June, and the individual involved died thirteen days later. The prosecutor’s office promptly referred the case to the Marseille division of the IGPN, the internal police watchdog, to examine the officer’s conduct.
At this stage, investigators have found no evidence establishing a direct causal relationship between the officer’s actions and the subsequent death. The inquiry remains open, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
