Police Officer Killed and Colleague Wounded in Hospital Attack in Tank District
A policeman was killed and another injured when gunmen opened fire and threw a grenade at a hospital entrance in Jandola, Tank district.
Unidentified gunmen targeted police guarding the entrance of a hospital in Jandola, a merged tehsil of Tank district, opening fire and throwing a hand grenade, which resulted in one policeman’s death and another’s injury. Police forces arrived promptly and began a search of the surrounding area. The incident follows a recent attack in the same district where three traffic police were shot dead and their vehicle seized before being recovered.
The district has endured several violent episodes this month, including an explosives-laden vehicle that detonated near a mosque in Kohat Police Lines, killing 21 people, 15 of them police officials, and a July 26 assault on a joint police checkpost that left 15 people dead, among them 12 soldiers, two policemen and a government official. Details about the attackers’ identities and motives remain unknown.
