Police officer killed in gun attack on patrol in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan

A police commando was shot dead while patrolling near Zahedan in Iran's Sistan-Baluchestan province, and several gunmen were wounded.

In southeastern Iran, a police commando unit was conducting a patrol in the Lakhshak district of Zahedan when gunmen ambushed their vehicle. The firefight resulted in the death of officer Vahid Enayat. Several of the attackers sustained injuries and escaped the scene, leading security forces to launch a search operation.

Officials described the incident as a terrorist attack, though no organization has claimed responsibility. Iranian authorities have accused foreign-backed armed groups of orchestrating a series of recent violent incidents in the restive Sistan-Baluchestan region.
