Police probe alleged collusion in procurement for national celebration event

Police have opened an investigation into possible anti-competitive agreements in the tender process for a state-organized celebration, after allegations that a company was pre-selected through insider contacts.

Law enforcement agencies have launched a criminal inquiry into suspected anti-competitive conduct surrounding the procurement for a high-profile state celebration. The probe follows claims that the tender, formally opened to three companies, may have been steered toward Hardrock Kft., whose head, Besnyő Dániel, allegedly exchanged messages with the Lounge group for confidential data on the event’s finances and subcontractors.

Earlier correspondence indicates that former event director Zelcsényi Miklós communicated with the Lounge managing director about advance payments for future fireworks and holiday celebrations, at the request of government commissioner Radnai Márk. Radnai later said his role was limited to creative concept work and he had no influence over the procurement. The Interior Ministry has ordered a separate investigation to clarify the procurement process, but no findings have been released yet.

Why it matters

The case raises concerns about transparency and fairness in public spending for major national events.
