A police investigation in Borlänge focuses on alleged electoral fraud surrounding Vänsterpartiet candidate Mohamed Abdukardir Ali, who secured a parliamentary seat with 648 personal votes. Investigators tracked a car that transported voters and are examining a person accused of circulating ballots already marked for Ali and offering money to voters. Surveillance footage allegedly shows the individual at an ATM repeatedly, and witnesses claim they distributed cash and the marked ballots.
No one has been detained, and Ali has rejected the accusations, stating he respects the law. Residents, including Jacob Stenqvist and Cornelia Hagström, expressed alarm and suggested a new election if misconduct is confirmed. Party officials have so far declined to comment.
