Police probe fatal assault at Merrigum caravan park near Shepparton

Detectives are examining the death of a man found unresponsive after an early-morning assault at a caravan park on Waverley Avenue in Merrigum, Victoria.

Around 3:10 am on Saturday, emergency crews were called to a caravan park on Waverley Avenue in Merrigum, about 30 km west of Shepparton, after reports of a violent assault. Upon arrival, officers found two men who appeared injured and unresponsive; one was given CPR but died at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital in stable condition. Victoria Police confirmed that detectives from the Homicide Squad are leading the investigation, with the Major Crime Scene Unit also examining the location.

This case echoes a May incident at the same park where a man suffered critical injuries from a stabbing during a brawl. Authorities have not released further details about suspects or motives at this stage.
