Police promise firm action against violence at rival Glasgow Green protests
Police say they will act firmly against any violence at upcoming rival protests in Glasgow Green, where the Pink Ladies and anti-immigration groups plan a rally and Stand Up to Racism Scotland will hold a counter-demonstration.
The Pink Ladies anti-immigration group plans to hold a protest at Glasgow Green at 1 pm, joined by additional anti-immigration factions encouraging participation. A counter-demonstration organized by Stand Up to Racism Scotland is set to begin at noon in the same park. Police officials emphasized their role in preventing crime and disorder, deploying uniformed officers, police horses, dogs, drones, a helicopter and dedicated hate-crime advisers.
They also noted the presence of Police Liaison Officers in light-blue vests to liaise with organizers. Following violent incidents on July 25, more than 20 individuals have been charged, and police warned that any violent or disorderly behaviour will be met with a strong response and zero tolerance for provocateurs.
Why it matters
The police response aims to prevent a repeat of July 25 clashes and ensure public safety during competing demonstrations.
