Police release CCTV of suspect in hammer attacks on two seniors in Sydney
Two men in their 70s were hospitalized after separate hammer assaults in Sydney’s north-west, and police have issued CCTV footage of a possible suspect.
On Tuesday evening, a 75-year-old man in Eastwood answered a knock at his door and was assaulted with a hammer to the face. Early Wednesday, a 71-year-old was attacked in the same neighbourhood park, receiving several blows to his head and face. The two seniors were transported to Royal North Shore Hospital; the older victim remains in stable condition while the younger is serious but stable.
Investigators have published CCTV captured at a childcare centre that shows a Caucasian man in his 30s, about 170 cm tall, wearing a dark tracksuit, white shoes and holding a shopping bag that appears to contain a hammer. Police are also requesting dash-cam footage from vehicles traveling along Blaxland Road between 6:30 am and 7:10 am on Wednesday to aid the inquiry.
Why it matters
The attacks raise community safety concerns and highlight the need for public assistance in identifying the suspect.
