Police renew call for witnesses in 2007 murder of Paul Quinn

Irish police have launched a fresh appeal for information about the 2007 killing of 21-year-old Paul Quinn in County Monaghan.

A renewed public appeal has been issued by An Garda Síochána for information on the murder of Paul Quinn, who was beaten to death on 20 October 2007 in County Monaghan. Quinn and a companion were ambushed by a group of eight to ten masked men, some armed, at outbuildings in Tullyvanus, Castleblayney, where they were tied up and violently assaulted. The attackers fled in a white van that has never been recovered.

To date, 23 individuals have been detained - 14 in the Republic of Ireland and nine in Northern Ireland - but none have faced prosecution. Detective Superintendent Ronan Carey has called on people in the Cullyhanna area of South Armagh, including those who were present in the shed or know the perpetrators, to break their silence. He emphasized that the passage of time may have altered relationships and that confidential lines are available for tips. The police hope new information will finally bring justice for Quinn’s parents, Breege and Stephen Quinn.

Why it matters

Resolving the case could bring closure to the victim's family and address longstanding concerns about unsolved paramilitary-linked killings in Ireland.
