Police Scotland finds no wrongdoing in Yes Scotland's 2013 accounts

Police Scotland concluded that the finances of Yes Scotland Ltd show no criminal activity, dismissing claims that £1.5 million was missing.

Police Scotland has completed its assessment of Yes Scotland Ltd’s 2013 financial records and reported that no criminal conduct was identified. The review was triggered by a complaint from campaigner David Henry, who claimed over £1 million was unaccounted for. In a letter to Aamer Anwar, the solicitor for former chief executive Blair Jenkins, the police confirmed that the available information does not warrant a probe.

Anwar explained that the organisation received £2,403,976 in donations, recorded as “other income,” and posted a surplus of £878,978 after operating costs of £1,535,855, which accounts for the alleged missing amount. He added that the allegation was a misreading of the accounts rather than evidence of theft. The police also noted that the information received did not reveal any basis for further action.

Why it matters

The finding clears a high-profile independence campaign group of financial misconduct allegations, preventing further legal and political fallout.
