Police seek identity of 70-year-old woman found murdered in Liverpool park
A 70-year-old woman's body was discovered in a bin bag in Stanley Park, and Merseyside Police are still unable to identify her.
Police were called to Stanley Park in Anfield on Friday evening after a member of the public discovered a black bin bag containing a woman's body. The victim, believed to be around 70 years old and wearing a pink Nike T-shirt, was found in the walled garden near the Isla Gladstone conservatory and is thought to have been there for several weeks. Merseyside Police have canvassed 625 properties, examined footage from 30 surveillance cameras and logged reports from 160 members of the public, yet they have not been able to confirm her identity.
DNA analysis has produced no matches in national databases and dental records could not be checked. Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald reiterated the appeal for information, including any drone footage, and urged anyone who may have known the woman or observed suspicious activity to contact the force.
Why it matters
Identifying the victim could lead to arrests and bring closure to a community shocked by a murder in a public park.
