Police seize 148 cartons of suspected untaxed cigarettes in Hilir Perak raid
Hilir Perak police confiscated 148 cartons of cigarettes believed to be untaxed after a raid based on intelligence from the Marine Intelligence Unit.
A raid on a residence in Hilir Perak resulted in the seizure of 148 cartons of cigarettes suspected of being untaxed, according to district police chief Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian. The operation was launched after the Marine Intelligence Unit gathered intelligence in Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan, under a contraband crackdown known as Op Taring Landai. Inspectors discovered several boxes of different cigarette brands that did not bear valid customs duty stamps.
The confiscated items were transferred to the Hilir Perak district police headquarters, and the case is being pursued under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. Investigators are working to identify the supply chain, involved parties and distribution channels, while warning citizens not to handle or trade untaxed goods. Penalties for conviction include hefty fines up to RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
