Police seize nine guns, drugs and $15,000 in Christchurch gang raid
A Christchurch police operation targeting the King Cobra gang recovered nine firearms, over a kilogram of cannabis and $15,000, and arrested three members.
Inspector Craig Scott, tactical operations manager, announced that the Gang Disruption Unit conducted a raid on a Northcote house on Monday following an extensive investigation into a gang-linked cannabis supply chain. The search yielded nine firearms, ranging from pump-action and semi-automatic shotguns to a scoped, suppressed semi-automatic rifle, as well as over a kilogram of cannabis and $15,000 in cash. Three King Cobra gang members, two from Kaiapoi and one from Northcote, aged 20, 20 and 22, were arrested and charged with offences including possession for supply, unlawful firearm possession and driving while disqualified.
They are scheduled to appear in Christchurch District Court on October 1, 15 and 23, with two currently remanded. Scott highlighted the raid as an example of how local investigations can evolve into targeted gang-disruption actions that enhance community safety.
