Police seize private drone after it flies over Charleroi airport and nearby defence firms
A privately owned drone was intercepted over Charleroi Airport, causing a 25-minute halt to operations before police detained its owner.
During an afternoon on Wednesday, a drone entered the airspace above Charleroi Airport, prompting the airport to suspend activities for roughly 25 minutes. The intrusion was spotted by Skeyes, the air-traffic control system, which coordinated the interception. Authorities identified the drone as belonging to a private citizen and arrested the individual.
This event adds to a pattern of nighttime drone flights observed near the airport and over nearby structures used by defence sector firms. Despite extensive efforts, officials have not been able to pinpoint the other drones or their owners. The airport reported no significant damage or safety impact from the brief disruption.
