Police uncover 2.4 kilograms of gold hidden under a manhole in Oslo area
Authorities discovered about 2.4 kg of gold and over 300 pieces of jewelry concealed beneath a manhole cover, linking the loot to a series of burglaries in the Oslo region.
Police uncovered a cache weighing about 2.4 kg of gold and over 300 pieces of jewelry stashed under a manhole cover, a find they tie to multiple burglaries across the Oslo region. Four men from Lørenskog are charged with 13 serious thefts and five attempted break-ins, with two of the suspects holding Swedish citizenship. The alleged crimes took place in Oslo, Bærum and Nordre Follo and were reportedly organized in advance.
Authorities believe more stolen property may still be hidden. One victim, Arne Frønes from Bærum, reported a break-in that resulted in the loss of gold and jewelry valued between 70,000 and 80,000 kroner, and he later repaired his door himself after insurance covered most costs. The defendants deny guilt, and their lawyers plan to contest the charges at trial.
