Police uncover meth hidden inside McMuffin during Broome traffic stop

In August, Broome police stopped a vehicle on Cable Beach and, after rummaging through a mixed fast-food bag, opened a McDonald’s McMuffin to reveal a zip-lock packet of methylamphetamine. The driver, identified as a 39-year-old Derby resident, was taken into custody on August 20 and faces a charge of possessing a prohibited drug with intent to supply. Senior Sergeant Trisha Stjepic said the method of hiding drugs in a breakfast sandwich is unprecedented and reflects a broader trend of more elaborate concealment tactics, including stashing substances in car boots.

She emphasized that comprehensive searches of entire vehicles are essential under the Misuse of Drugs Acts. The McMuffin seizure was one of two fast-food-related drug incidents in Broome that month; another involved a 21-year-old who arrived from Perth with cannabis, meth and a knife, allegedly intending to distribute drugs locally. Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
