Authorities say a sophisticated fraud network employed counterfeit police credentials and remote-access tools to siphon money and cryptocurrency abroad, and recovered stolen hunting weapons after an intensive investigation.

The police described the criminal operation as systematic and organized, noting the use of forged police identification and remote-controlled computers to transfer funds and crypto to foreign accounts. A victim was tricked into surrendering hunting weapons, which were later retrieved following intensive investigative work. The prosecutor’s office indicated that a suspected ringleader is being held in absentia.
