Police use non-lethal gunfire after man attacks officer with knife in Bucharest
A man who threatened self-harm attacked a police officer with a knife during a forced entry, and the officer responded with rubber-bullet fire, wounding the suspect.
Police were alerted that a man in Sector 3 had sent a message to his former spouse indicating he might harm himself. Concerned relatives called for assistance, and officers from Secţia 13, supported by the Special Actions Service, arrived at the address. The man locked himself inside and declined to cooperate, leading the unit to breach the premises.
Upon entry he stabbed a police officer with a knife; the officer responded by firing rubber-bullet rounds, hitting the suspect in the abdomen. Emergency medical personnel provided immediate treatment, and the man was transported to a hospital for further evaluation, with doctors confirming his condition was not life-threatening. The investigation into the assault continues under the jurisdiction of the Sector 3 prosecutor’s office.
