Police use taser twice on armed suspect during foot chase near Burwood mall

Around 4:15 pm, police were dispatched to a busy inner-west shopping complex on Belmore Street after receiving alerts of unusual behaviour. Two individuals were spotted, and when officers attempted to engage them, both ran, leading to a rapid on-foot pursuit across the area. The chase concluded when officers fired a taser at a 43-year-old male, who was armed with two knives, and delivered a second shock as he attempted to stand.

Bystanders and traffic were halted as officers secured the suspect, who was subsequently handcuffed and placed under police guard. NSW Ambulance paramedics performed an on-scene assessment before the man was transported to a hospital for further evaluation. The incident highlights the challenges of responding to armed individuals in crowded public spaces.
