Polish Central Transport Hub faces funding shortfall and railway delays
The Centralny Port Komunikacyjny project is stalled by a lack of money and permits, with the high-speed Warsaw-Łódź rail line unlikely to run the full route as scheduled.
Recent figures show that spending on the Centralny Port Komunikacyjny and its operating company has reached several billion złoty by July 2026, yet the project still requires further state capital. Led by Donald Tusk, the effort—now called Port Polska—includes building a new airport at Baranow, extensive road works, and a high-speed rail network. Test piling, earthworks and access-road construction are underway at the airport site, but the railway component, especially the Warsaw-Łódź segment and an underground tunnel, is lagging because of insufficient funding and pending permits.
Deputy Infrastructure Minister Piotr Malepszak said a request for additional financing has been submitted to the Ministry of Finance. Moreover, officials have not yet decided how Warsaw’s Chopin Airport will operate once the new hub becomes operational, with several scenarios under consideration.
